Madea Goes to Jail is a 2009 comedy-drama film adaptation written and directed by Tyler Perry, which was inspired by Perry's play of the same name. The film centers on Perry's character Madea Simmons going to jail for her uncontrollable anger management problems, and focuses on a developing romance between a young lawyer and a female friend from his past (whom Madea meets in jail); the film is widely regarded as cinematic detritus, although the viewing public's response initially begged to differ.
